We sat down with Michaela, the inspiring entrepreneur behind the soon to open Desert Bloom Pilates & Boutiques, a Pilates studio and boutique set to bring movement and style to Mesa, Arizona. Read to hear a bit about Desert Bloom Pilates & Boutiques!
Q: What inspired you to open your own Pilates studio and boutiques?
A: I've dreamed of owning my own retail shop for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I was always selling something - crochet purses, lemonade, school fundraiser cookie dough, little art projects. I even used to pick rocks from my mom’s garden, write prices on them with Sharpie, and sell them to our poor neighbors!
About five years ago, I discovered Pilates and instantly fell in love. I’ve never been a big fan of traditional workouts, but something about the flow and mindfulness of Pilates really clicked with me. So, I thought why not combine the two things I love most: Pilates and shopping? That’s how the idea for my studio and boutique came to life. Now, visitors can come in for a great Pilates class and leave with a fun gift or treat all in one stop!
Q: What makes your studio different from others?
A: What makes my studio unique is that it combines a boutique Pilates experience with a retail shop all under one roof! No more running errands after your workout you can get your movement in and treat yourself to a little shopping right on the spot. Personally, I love a little retail therapy after a good sweat, so I wanted to create a space where others could enjoy that too.
We also focus on making your experience as seamless and enjoyable as possible. You can reserve your favorite reformer, and if you forget water or grip socks, you can pre-order them when you book and they'll be waiting for you at your spot when you arrive. The studio is filled with plant vibes and good energy, and we love supporting other small businesses through the retail side.
Plus, we’re introducing dedicated “open reformer” times - perfect for when you want to do your own thing. Whether you’re craving a deep stretch or an intense cardio push, you can come in and move at your own pace without a formal class structure. It’s all about flexibility, comfort, and creating a space that feels like a treat, not a chore.
Q: What types of Pilates classes will you offer?
A: Desert Bloom will offer a variety of Pilates classes to fit every level and mood! Whether you’re brand new or a seasoned pro, there’s something for you. We’ll have beginner-friendly intro classes, Slow Flow for a more mindful pace, energizing Jumpboard sessions, Tower classes for added variety and resistance, and intermediate classes for those ready to level up.
We’re also excited to offer “Open Reformer” time where you can come in and do your own thing on the reformer, whether that’s a deep stretch or a heart-pumping workout.

Q: Who is your ideal client?
A: Our ideal client on the Pilates side is anyone who loves a good vibe - think plant-filled spaces, uplifting energy, and a welcoming community. Whether you're a wellness enthusiast, a group fitness lover, totally new to working out, or a seasoned Pilates pro, we’ve got a spot for you. All ages and experience levels are welcome!
On the boutique side, Desert Bloom is perfect for anyone who loves supporting small businesses and discovering unique finds. We’ll be home to over 50 local makers and brands, with plenty of greenery (yes, lots of plants!) and fun pop-up events like craft nights and plant parties. It’s more than just a shop or studio it’s a little community hub for movement, creativity, and connection.
Q: Tell us more about the boutique side of the business.
A: The boutique side of Desert Bloom is all about celebrating small businesses and curating a space full of fun, unique finds. We’ll be home to over 50 small makers and brands offering everything from clothing, jewelry, and accessories to local art, handmade goodies, honey, jams, and all the fun gifts you didn’t know you needed.
And of course plants galore! Whether you're looking for a new leafy friend or just love browsing through greenery, we've got you covered.
We’ll also be hosting creative workshops and craft nights, so our space can be a place where people come not just to shop, but to connect, create, and have fun. It’s more than a boutique—it’s a whole experience.
Q: What are your goals for the first year of business?
A: In our first year, we have some big (and exciting!) goals. We want Desert Bloom to become home to over 50 amazing small businesses, giving them a space to shine and grow. We also hope to build a strong sense of community where people come not just to shop or take a class, but to connect, feel inspired, and be part of something special.
We’re all about bringing a little more green into everyone’s lives. Literally, with our plant-filled boutique and emotionally, by creating a space that feels fresh, welcoming, and uplifting. Most of all, we want people to fall in love with wellness, fitness, and Pilates in a way that feels approachable, fun, and truly enjoyable.
Q: Will you offer any introductory specials or memberships?
A: Yes, absolutely! We have so many exciting offers lined up to welcome our community. For the Pilates studio, we’ll be offering special new client deals including discounts on single drop-ins, class packs, and unlimited memberships. Plus, the first 50 members will receive a lifetime discount on unlimited memberships so don’t miss out on that!
For our grand opening weekend, we’re going all out! We’ll be offering free classes for anyone who wants to join, goodie bags for the first guests through the door, fun raffles, and of course some yummy treats to celebrate.
There’s lots more to come, so stay tuned for more announcements and surprises!
Q: When and where will you be opening?
A: We’re so excited to be opening in a charming shopping center right on the border of Mesa and Gilbert on Gilbert Road. The retail boutique is set to open in mid-July, with the Pilates studio following shortly after in August. Exact dates will be announced soon so keep an eye out!
We’ve got some fun grand opening celebrations planned, and if all goes well (fingers crossed!), we hope to pop up in more spots around the Phoenix Valley in the future. This is just the beginning!
Q: What are you most excited for?
A: I’m most excited to connect with other small business owners and help bring their visions to life. There’s something so special about creating a space where creativity, passion, and community all come together.
I also can’t wait to meet more like-minded fitness enthusiasts. People who love movement, wellness, and good vibes. What really excites me is bringing people together, whether it’s over a great Pilates class or a fun find in the boutique. I’m just so excited to create a space that feels inspiring, supportive, and fun for everyone who walks through the door.
